Tinubu Sends Lent Message To Christians

President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt wishes to Christians in Nigeria and across the world as they begin the 2025 Lenten season, urging them to embrace compassion, empathy, and acts of kindness throughout this sacred period.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Tinubu described Lent as a time for fasting, prayer, and deep reflection — a spiritual journey that prepares believers for the celebration of Easter. He encouraged Christians to practice self-denial, give to the less privileged, and renew their faith.

The President also highlighted the unique overlap between this year’s Lent and the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims, noting that both religious seasons focus on devotion, sacrifice, and kindness. According to Tinubu, this shared spirit of reflection shows the beauty of Nigeria’s religious diversity.

“As people of faith, we must look beyond ourselves. This is a time to comfort the grieving, visit the sick, and stand with the poor and the marginalised,” the statement read.

Quoting the Scriptures, Tinubu reminded Nigerians that true worship is shown through love for one another, adding that acts of kindness and compassion define the essence of both Lent and Ramadan.

The President called on all Nigerians, regardless of faith, to use this season as an opportunity to build bridges, promote peace, and strengthen the bonds that hold the nation together.
