Tinubu Signs Anti-Doping Bill Into Law

NSC Chairman Malam Shehu Dikko expressed gratitude, highlighting that the bill’s passage—nearly two decades in the making—demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to aligning Nigeria with global anti-doping standards.

“I sincerely appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt action in signing this bill into law. He pushed for its passage after it had lingered for almost 20 years,” Dikko stated.

The new law establishes an independent body to enforce the World Anti-Doping Code, with the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre set to become a continental hub for testing. Dikko revealed that funding has already been approved in the 2025 budget to build and equip a world-class anti-doping laboratory.

Currently, Africa has only one such facility, forcing Nigerian and other African athletes to send samples abroad. Once operational, the new lab will not only support local athletes but also serve as a revenue generator for Nigeria.

“This legislation reaffirms our commitment to fairness in sports. Our athletes must always remain clean, and this bill sends a strong message that we uphold integrity in all our endeavors,” Dikko concluded.
