Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has announced that President Bola Tinubu will soon launch the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit. The initiative aims to provide affordable homes for citizens across all income levels.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday while receiving a delegation from Creative Sphere Limited, Dangiwa explained that the programme is targeted at low-income earners, the unemployed, vulnerable groups, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). It will cater to both the formal and informal sectors.
The Federal Government plans to build 100 housing units in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, totaling 77,400 units. The construction is expected to be completed within a year from the launch date.
Dangiwa emphasized that 80% of the houses will be sold to Nigerians earning a living wage. Buyers will contribute one-third of their monthly income, making it possible for those earning as little as N30,000 per month to afford a home. The remaining 20% will be allocated free of charge to vulnerable groups, including widows and orphans.
“These estates will come with essential facilities such as schools, police outposts, clinics, shopping malls, and recreational areas,” the minister stated. He also revealed that funding will come from the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF).
The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is part of a broader initiative that includes Renewed Hope Housing Estates and Renewed Hope Cities. The government hopes this will provide a long-term solution to Nigeria’s housing crisis and improve living conditions for all citizens.
