Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central), labeling it a fraudulent scheme designed to silence her and undermine the democratic choice of her constituents.
At a press conference in Abuja, TMG Chairman Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani) insisted that allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio—including sexual harassment, abuse of power, and obstruction of legislative duties—must be thoroughly investigated rather than dismissed.
“TMG has no reservations if the Senate disciplines a member for disobeying rules, but the allegations against the Senate President are too serious to be ignored,” Musa stated. He further criticized the Senate’s handling of the case, describing it as a “coordinated gang-up” against one of the few women in the 10th Senate.
Musa highlighted the controversial recall process, citing reports and video evidence showing constituents were misled into signing petitions under false pretenses. While commending INEC for transparency in counting signatures, he dismissed the recall attempt as a charade that violated Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
TMG warned that the Senate’s actions not only damage Nigeria’s democratic image but also reinforce concerns about gender discrimination and abuse of power within the National Assembly.
