Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have killed two suspected terrorists and destroyed their hideouts in separate operations in Taraba State. The military also recovered weapons and other items from the scene.
According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the operation followed credible intelligence about the movement of armed men between Mayokan and Bondogri villages in Bali Local Government Area. The troops responded swiftly and moved to intercept the suspects.
The soldiers engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle around the villages of Garbatau, Garin Hamidu, Bandaguri, and Mayokan. Two of the suspects were killed, while others fled with injuries. Weapons recovered included an AK-47 rifle, magazine, ammunition, a dane gun, 27 arrows, and six cutlasses.
On the same day, troops also conducted a clearance patrol in Ibi Local Government Area, targeting hideouts in Yamiri Village under Sarkin Kudu Ward. The armed criminals reportedly abandoned their camp and fled upon sighting the advancing soldiers.
A search of the area led to the recovery of a military camouflage uniform and a Bible. All the hideouts discovered during the operation were destroyed to prevent the criminals from regrouping or returning.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their bravery and reiterated their commitment to restoring peace in Taraba. He urged residents to continue supporting the military by sharing timely and reliable information.
