UBEC Praises Nasarawa’s Education Progress

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has commended Nasarawa State for its remarkable achievements in developing basic education. UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Garba, gave the praise during a familiarization visit to the state with the commission’s management team.

According to Hajiya Garba, Nasarawa stands among the top states in the country when it comes to accessing and using the Federal Government’s UBE matching grants. She described the state’s efforts in improving its education system as “impressive” and worthy of emulation.

Since 2005, UBEC has disbursed over N20 billion to Nasarawa State, supporting projects like classroom construction, school renovations, provision of textbooks, and recruitment of 2,000 teachers. For 2025, the state’s allocation has been increased to N6.7 billion, while the 2024 matching grant of N3.5 billion is ready for release.

The UBEC boss highlighted that Nasarawa’s contributions extend beyond grant usage. The state donated land for UBEC’s North Central zonal office and provided a temporary office for the commission, further strengthening its partnership with the federal agency.

As part of its own direct interventions, UBEC has supported Nasarawa with projects like Model Smart Schools, junior model secondary schools, Almajiri model schools, libraries, and the supply of instructional materials. These efforts aim to make basic education more accessible and effective.

Hajiya Garba praised the state’s commitment, urging other states to follow Nasarawa’s example by prioritizing education and maximizing opportunities provided by UBEC’s grants and programs.
