Youths from Umuokanne in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State have successfully rescued a female trader, Mrs. Obiageli Oguguo, from kidnappers who had taken her into Oforola forest.
Mrs. Oguguo was abducted early Monday morning while on her way to the market to sell garri. Witnesses who saw the kidnapping immediately alerted the traditional ruler of Umuokanne, prompting swift action.
The community’s youth security team quickly mobilized and stormed the forest, successfully freeing the kidnapped woman before she could be moved further into captivity.
Speaking after her rescue, a shaken Mrs. Oguguo said she was abducted around 6am by three men she described as Fulani, and that the Umuokanne youths saved her later the same day, March 3rd, 2025.
The swift rescue has drawn praise across the community, with residents commending the youths for their bravery and showing how community-led security can play a crucial role in combating rising kidnappings in the region.
The traditional ruler of Umuokanne also urged continued vigilance, encouraging all communities to work closely with local security networks to protect residents, especially traders and farmers who are vulnerable during early morning movements.
