UN, Sanusi Lead Chibok Girls Tribute

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Dr. Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode, gathered today in London for a powerful commemoration of the Chibok Girls’ abduction, marking 11 years since the tragedy.

Dr. Muhammed-Oyebode, the Chief Operating Officer of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, will lead the discussion titled “The Stolen Daughters of Chibok: Resilience, Justice, and Global Lessons.” She said the event aims to spotlight the pain that still lingers and the global responsibility to end impunity.

“This isn’t just history – this is a continuing horror,” she stated. “We gather not only to honour the stolen daughters of Chibok but also to hold the world accountable for allowing impunity to thrive.”

A gripping photo exhibition will accompany the session, offering raw images that capture the anguish of the girls’ families and the impact of insurgency on education and identity. Emir Sanusi, a vocal advocate for justice, serves as the event’s honorary patron.

Other notable speakers include Bulama Bukarti, Osai Ojigho, and Dr. Elizabeth Pearson, all joining the call to reignite attention to the plight of the missing girls and to reinforce education as a lifeline in conflict-ridden regions.

“This is more than remembrance,” Muhammed-Oyebode said. “It’s a clarion call to reignite global outrage, to pursue justice without compromise and to restore dignity and opportunity to girls and women scarred by war.”
