The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has commended Governor Dauda Lawal for his commitment to economic empowerment and his consistent provision of counterpart funding in Zamfara State.
The praise came during the launch of the UNDP North-West Prevention Facility Project held at the Garba Nadama Hall in Gusau on Wednesday, where irrigation tools were distributed to 300 selected farmers and startup capital of ₦150,000 each was allocated to 1,000 entrepreneurs across the state.
Governor Lawal, speaking at the event, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to lifting residents out of poverty, stressing that the initiatives align with his broader Rescue Mission agenda focused on inclusive development.
“These efforts are not isolated,” Lawal stated. “They reflect a deliberate approach to build partnerships that tackle our socio-economic challenges. No community is left behind—we ensured equitable distribution across local governments and transparent selection of beneficiaries.”
The governor also highlighted the importance of knowledge in sustaining empowerment, noting that comprehensive training sessions were provided for farmers and small business owners to ensure long-term success.
UNDP’s North-West Head of Office, Ashraf Usman, hailed Governor Lawal’s leadership and dedication, saying, “Your effectiveness and determination are clear to all. You’ve supported a large number of people and set a model for other state governments. Thank you for your leadership and commitment.
