US Commends Nigerian Air Force’s Anti-Terror Fight

The United States government has praised the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its dedication and significant contributions in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.

This commendation came from Jessica Long, Acting Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the US Bureau of Counterterrorism, during a high-level meeting at NAF Headquarters in Abuja. The US delegation was received by Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, the Chief of Civil-Military Relations.

In her remarks, Long applauded the Nigerian military’s recent successes in disrupting terrorist networks and adopting intelligence-driven tactics. According to her, these strategies have not only helped secure key areas within Nigeria but also contributed to regional stability.

Long reaffirmed America’s continued support for Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts, stressing the importance of international partnerships in tackling evolving security challenges. She also highlighted the need for precision-driven operations to ensure effectiveness and strategic impact.

The meeting also covered plans for improved intelligence sharing, capacity building, and operational support to further enhance NAF’s capabilities in combating terrorism and insurgency.

In response, AVM Daramola thanked the US delegation for their support and stressed the NAF’s commitment to protecting civilians while maintaining national security. He called for deeper collaboration in areas such as specialised training and technology transfer to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework.
