WHO Donates Infection Prevention and Nutritional Items to Borno State

The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated infection prevention materials, nutritional items, and other essential commodities to the Borno State Government to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly for vulnerable women and children.

Speaking in Maiduguri, WHO Country Representative Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo stated that the donation aligns with WHO’s commitment to improving child protection and nutrition in the state, which has faced humanitarian challenges due to the Boko Haram insurgency. Represented by WHO’s North-East Emergency Manager, Kumshida Balami, Mulombo commended the state government and the Ministry of Health for their efforts in addressing these challenges.

Borno State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Malum Gana, received the items and noted that they would help combat communicable diseases such as cholera and acute malnutrition, particularly in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

The donated materials include 3,500 admission and rotation cards, 300 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE), 300 environmental cleaning kits, infection control items, and detergents, among others.
