Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has awarded scholarships to 127 law graduates, giving them a financial boost to pursue their one-year mandatory programme at the Nigerian Law School. The ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Damaturu, where he personally handed out the cheques to the beneficiaries.
Buni explained that the initiative was designed to ease the burden of registration and academic expenses for the graduates, allowing them to focus on earning their professional certificates. He described the scholarships as part of his broader commitment to promoting access to education for young people in the state.
“This is the fourth consecutive year we are sponsoring law graduates to attend the Nigerian Law School,” Buni stated, highlighting the consistency of his administration in investing in education. He added that more than 38,000 students have benefited from Yobe’s scholarship programme since he took office.
He confirmed that each of the 127 beneficiaries will receive N475,000 to cover tuition fees, along with a laptop to support their studies. “It is with a sense of fulfilment that the government has approved sponsorship of all the 127 graduates that applied for the programme,” the governor said.
Buni also recalled a recent milestone where 189 out of 233 students sponsored by the state returned from India after completing their university education across seven institutions. He praised their achievement as a sign that the state’s investment in education is yielding real results.
Reaffirming his administration’s focus on education, the governor assured parents and students that the government would continue to prioritize youth development. “We are committed to supporting every citizen to pursue education at all levels,” he emphasized.
